TEENAGER PUPPIES AND RETIRED ADULTS

Not every home is in a position to start with a young puppy, and that is completely okay.

Many of our teenager puppies and retired adults are already past the early stages of chewing, training, and nighttime adjustments. They can be a great fit for the right home that still has time, structure, and consistency to offer.

OUR PERSPECTIVE

We do not worry when a puppy or adult takes longer to find the right home.

We believe the right connection comes at the right time, and when it does, it is worth the wait.

In the meantime, they remain part of our daily life, receiving the same care, attention, and affection as every dog in our home.

SPECIAL PLACEMENT NEEDS

Some of our dogs have developed strong bonds or specific needs that must be respected in order for them to transition successfully.

Some may need to be placed with their bonded companion and will only be placed together

Some may need to be placed into a home that already has a dachshund

Some may require a slower, more gradual transition into a new environment

These decisions are based on each dog’s personality, attachment, and long term well being.

We do not make exceptions.

At more developed stages, the connection must be right for the dog, not just the person. This plays a critical role in how they transition into a new home.

Some dogs adapt easily. Others are more sensitive and require a stronger, more immediate connection in order to feel secure.

PLACEMENT CONSIDERATIONS

Because teenager puppies and retired adults have already developed routines and expectations, we are more selective in their placement.

HOMES MUST:

Own their home

Have a fenced yard

Do not rely on indoor potty training methods

Have prior experience with dogs

Are open to maintaining an ongoing relationship

Preference may also be given to families who have previously had one of our dogs placed with them.

VALUE AND DEVELOPMENT

As our puppies grow, they continue to receive daily handling, socialization, and real life experience within our home.

They are not simply getting older. They are gaining structure, exposure, and training that a younger puppy has not yet had the opportunity to develop.

For this reason, our placement approach does not change based on age. We focus on the individual dog, their development, and finding the right long term fit rather than adjusting expectations based on timing.

Their value is not determined by age, but by the level of development and understanding they have already reached.

ONGOING CONNECTION

We value long term relationships with the homes our dogs go to.

For these placements, we ask for occasional updates and welcome the opportunity to stay connected over time.
